When underway to Wilhelmshaven attacked by group of Me-109s coming from above. Lt. Moon was hit and crashed at Oosterland, Wieringen. Buried initially in nearby Huisduinen/Den Helder cemetery by the Germans with military honors. One more P-47 came down, that was F/O Frank Gallion in 42-7924, crashed 4 miles to the southeast in the Lake. |
Lt. Moon was exhumed in 1947 and reburied in the US centralization War Cemetery 'Netherlands' in Margraten, he rests there today.
