On route back to England, the aircraft was in trouble and flying low. Crew jumped northeast of Amsterdam on the shore of Lake IJsselmeer. Four men drowned, were later recovered and buried in Amsterdam. Four men became POW. One man could evade. Pilot Lt. Watson, alone on board, flew crippled aircraft back to England. |
